March 24th: World TB Day

March 24th was World Tuberculosis day which raises awareness of the effects that TB can have on someone’s health. This date is symbolic because it is the day that Robert Koch discovered the bacteria that causes TB. I’ve learned alot about Koch in my science classes, so it is fitting that this day honors the discovery.

TB is an infectious disease that is very deadly which is unfortunate because it is preventable. Over the last two decades, there have been many successful interventions to lower the rate of TB, however in 2020, the rise of COVID-19 set back these efforts. Because of this, it is important that the public health issue of TB is properly addressed on a global scale.
